Inspired by this t-shirt quilt (above) that I came across recently on Pinterest, I decided to create my own using some t-shirts from high school and bands that I was friends with when I was a teenager. I got the fabric for the backing, the fabric for the binding, and the batting from Fabric.com using a coupon code that they had emailed me. (I love a deal!)



Instead of actually quilting it, I decided tie the quilt. I used a curved upholstry needle and some yarn from my stash to tie the quilt. I used Katie's tutorial on how to tie the quilt together. Then I didn't want to go through the hassle of having to handstich the binding to the back of the quilt, so I used this tutorial from Prudent to make and attach the binding just using my sewing machine.



Overall, it was a pretty easy project and now I have a little lap quilt full of memories!

Pinterest Project #2

Today I sewed up a flat iron travel pouch using a tutorial from Crap I've Made that I pinned on Pinterest recently.

I used insul-brite batting but didn't have quite enough for the whole thing. So I made the pouch area a bit smaller, as I have a skinnier iron, and didn't use it on the flap. Instead, I used a medium-weight fusible interfacing on the flap. Also I realized that I only had black velcro in my stash, so I plan on picking up some white velcro and hand sewing it in later, since that'll better match the color of my fabric.

I've really enjoyed actually using all the tutorials that I've been pinning, so expect to see more Pinterest Projects in the future!

McCall's 6277

I picked up McCall's 6277 a while ago at one of Joann Fabric's sales. It's a Laura Ashley dress pattern with different cup sizes for the bust. Instead of making it in a woven, like the directions suggest, I decided to make mine in a lightweight knit that I purchased from Fabric.com (looks like it's no longer available.) I had seen several others (like Jessica from Green Apples and Christy from mystitchnbitch) make view B of this pattern in a knit and thought it would make for an easy pull-on dress.

After cutting the pieces out, it didn't take much time to sew together. It was intimidating at first to sew with a knit, but after a few practice runs with the scrap fabric, I got the hang of it. As the others that made this in a knit had suggested, I used the shorter sleeves from view C instead of the super long ones from view B. I ended up not bothering to finishing the sleeves or the botton of the dress since this knit won't unravel and I created a facing for the neckline and tacked it down to the seam allowance inside.

I love this knit!  It just stretchs to fit so you don't have to worry about strange fitting issues like you would with a woven. Expect a few more knit dresses from me in the future!

After seeing this (above) on Pinterest recently, I thought I should get to work on actually using all the inspiration that I've been pinning over the past few months. My first project that I decided to tackle was the Mini Makeup Roll from KellyRachel.com.

Instead of piecing together a few different fabrics like the tutorial, I decided to use just two printed fabrics that I had on hand for the roll.

Annnddd here's my version of the Mini Make-up Roll! It only took less than an hour to whip up and it'll be cute in my purse to hold all those tubes of chapstick and lip gloss.



There will definitely be more Pinterest inspired projects to come!

WIP: Vogue 8631

I have all the pattern pieces cut out for Vogue 8631, an easy wrap dress. I'm using a dark purple cotton that I picked up at Joann's to make the shorter sleeve version of this pattern. The pattern had good reviews on PatternReview.com so I hope it turns out great!

Planning: Vogue 1224

My plan for Vogue 1224, a Tracy Reese designed misses dress.  Based on the reviews that I've read, I'll add a little width and length to the bottom of the dress so it's not tight like on the model.  I've purchased a stretch rayon jersey knit from Fabric.com in a neat white and coral print that reminds me of the fabric on the model.

My plan for McCall's 6277, view B is a misses dress with flowing sleeves designed by Laura Ashley.  I ordered a stretch rayon jersey knit fabric from Fabric.com in an abstract print of teal, yellow, and black.

My plan for McCall's 5974, view C is a faux wrap dress designed by Palmer/Pletch. I already ordered this stretch jersey ITY knit fabric in pink & cream from Fabric.com for this one.

And here is my cute new top for summer!  I used Simplicity 2599 but didn't include the extra embellishments.  I'm excited to use this pattern to make more new shirts!

Project Restyle - Dress to Apron

I finally completed my first project for Project Restyle. I transformed an old spring dress that I never wore into a cute apron.  I didn't like how the top of the dress was so low cut and since it was a halter top, I couldn't just wear a cami underneath. This dress was in my Goodwill pile - so I thought I'd transform it!

I used a fabric that I had in my stash to create the waistband and pocket and then added a scrap from the dress as a cute ruffle on the top of the pocket!  I'm sure this apron will get much more use than the dress did!
